Cody Iron Works
Blacksmith

Cody Iron Works

Cody, Wyoming

N.J. Pawley comes from a long line of horse trainers. He apprenticed with the teacher at the local college, took the course twice, apprenticed with a couple more men, and became a farrier. That is where the blacksmithing starts. A farrier has to make his own shoes, and then his own tools, and once you are making your own tools you are a blacksmith whether you have called yourself one or not. Cody Iron Works is a one man blacksmith shop in Cody, Wyoming, where N.J. Pawley hand forges hat racks, knives, dinner bells and hardware over coal and propane fire. He has been forging full time since about 2008, in this shop for seven years, and has been on Etsy since roughly 2010. Ninety percent of the business is online and he recently passed his five thousandth order. Almost every tool in the shop he made himself. For years the shape of his life was training horses in the summer and blacksmithing through the winter. In summer, when Cody hits a hundred and six degrees, he forges in the middle of the night. Every finished piece gets linseed oil, originally flaxseed, a protective coating smiths have used since at least the Middle Ages. It goes on hot and it smokes, and he admits it is dramatic. He is explicit that he does not sell out of the shop and does not want walk in retail traffic, for tax and licensing reasons. He teaches, but only two students at a time, because in a room where a set of tongs left in the rack is still hot enough to take skin off, two is what one man can watch.

Lost Bandidas
Leatherworker

Lost Bandidas

Gardnerville, Douglas County

Meet Amber Bradford Clark — The Woman Behind Lost Bandidas Raised on a small ranch surrounded by registered Hereford cattle, Amber Bradford Clark’s roots run deep in agriculture and the Western way of life. Growing up, she was actively involved in 4-H, FFA, and the Hereford Association, building a foundation of hard work, creativity, and a love for the ranching community that continues to shape her life today. Amber met her husband in 2011, and together they began a life filled with adventure, following cowboy jobs throughout Idaho and Montana before eventually settling in Nevada, where they have spent the last 10 years. Along the way, they have built a family and are raising three children whom they homeschool, passing down their love for agriculture, the Western lifestyle, and the values that come with it. Lost Bandidas started as a side hustle selling clothing and has gradually grown into a thriving business with a personality all its own. Amber wanted to create clothing that reflected her Western roots while remaining affordable for everyday cowboys, cowgirls, and families. Today, Lost Bandidas features Amber’s original drawings and designs on unique clothing pieces that are “Cowboy Wage” affordable — proving that Western style doesn’t have to come with a high price tag. In 2025, Amber decided to take a leap and explore another creative passion: leatherwork. Although she had done some braiding earlier in her marriage, working with braiding became difficult with young children around. As life changed and the opportunity presented itself again, she picked up the craft and discovered a whole new creative outlet. What began as an experiment quickly became a major part of the business. Today, Lost Bandidas is approximately 50% clothing and 50% leatherwork, combining Amber’s original artwork, Western fashion, and handcrafted leather creations. From unique statement pieces to practical, one-of-a-kind accessories, her goal is to make Western-inspired items that are creative, distinctive, and affordable for everyone. For Amber, Lost Bandidas is about more than just running a business. It is a way to bring her creativity to life, stay connected to the Western lifestyle she grew up in, and build something meaningful for her family. Between homeschooling three children, supporting their agricultural interests, and running a growing business, Amber is proof that a little creativity, a lot of determination, and a strong set of Western roots can go a long way. Lost Bandidas is Western-made in spirit, creatively driven, and built for real people living the Western way of life. Whether you’re looking for affordable Western clothing or unique leatherwork that stands out from the crowd, Amber is bringing her own vision to the industry — one design and one handmade piece at a time.

Original Cody Gun Show
Gun show

Original Cody Gun Show

Cody, Wyoming

The Original Cody Gun Show has been held in Cody, Wyoming for 52 years. Every December, dealers from across the region set up at the Cody Auditorium on Beck Avenue with guns, knives, swords and Old West collectibles, and for two days the town buys, sells and trades. It is not the big July collectors show at Riley Arena. It is the hometown one: a $10 ticket, a Friday afternoon and a Saturday, tables you can walk in a morning, and the same faces year after year. The show is run today by N.J. Pawley, the cowboy blacksmith behind Cody Iron Works, and John Shwartz. In 2026 Ranch Route is sponsoring the show, so the story lives here alongside the partners who make the goods you will find on the tables.
