The Ranch Story

Established in 1947, Triple L Ranch is one of the last remaining Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) working cattle ranches on Maui — family owned and operated for five generations. Located on the pristine, sacred, and undeveloped southwest slope of Haleakalā, away from the hustle and bustle of tourist areas.

Louis De Ponte Sr. founded the ranch to fulfill his dream of raising purebred Angus cattle alongside his son Louis Jr., nicknamed 'Bully' after the fighter John Bull. Bully became a champion bull rider and legendary figure in Maui's Paniolo community, working tirelessly to keep Triple L Ranch and the surrounding Kanaio land alive until his passing in 2011.

Today, Paige De Ponte — Bully's wife — owns and runs the ranch full-time, making Triple L one of the only 100% women-run cattle ranches in Hawaii. With a background as a world-traveling photographer, published author, documentary filmmaker, and equine-assisted healing facilitator, Paige brings an extraordinary spirit to everything the ranch does.

In addition to the working cattle operation, Triple L offers authentic horseback riding tours through Maui's open range, and operates Bully's Burgers — a beloved food truck serving 100% natural, free-range, grass-fed beef burgers straight from the ranch herd. The ranch also supports 'The Spirit Horse Ranch,' a nonprofit equine-assisted therapy program for Maui fire victims and children of trauma.

We are the last free-range frontier on Maui — five generations of aloha, cattle, and paniolo spirit.

Our History
1947

Louis De Ponte Sr. founded Triple L Ranch to raise purebred Bar Angus cattle on the southwest slopes of Haleakalā with his son Louis Jr. ('Bully').

1947–2011

Bully De Ponte grew into a champion bull rider and old-school Paniolo, becoming a legendary figure in Maui's ranching community. He protected and maintained the Triple L Ranch and surrounding Kanaio land for decades.

2011

Bully De Ponte passed away. His wife Paige and son Zach opened Bully's Burgers in his honor — a food truck serving 100% natural, free-range, grass-fed burgers from the ranch's own cattle.

2011

Paige De Ponte founded Triple L Ranch Horseback Tours as a way to keep the family cattle ranch operational and share the paniolo lifestyle with visitors.

2021

Paige established 'The Spirit Horse Ranch,' a nonprofit Trauma Informed Care Equine Assisted Healing Center for children of trauma, including Maui fire victims.

Present

Triple L Ranch continues as a working cattle ranch with 5 generations of De Ponte family involvement. Zach heads cattle round ups, Maurissa runs Bully's Burgers and horse tours, and Paige leads the healing mission alongside the ranch operations.
